what we’re
all about
Ops By Design exists because most operations work stops at frameworks. We start where the frameworks end — where the founder has become the ceiling, and no amount of hiring, delegating, or working harder is going to change that. The work we do is structural. The businesses we build run on structure, not on the person who founded them.
Build a business that runs without you.
our motto
Every founder-led business eventually reaches the same wall: the qualities that built it become the ceiling. The founder is the taste, the standard, the decision-maker, the operating system, and the growth engine — all at once. Nothing wrong happened. That's how businesses get built from zero.
What most founders don't know: the wall isn't a hiring problem, a discipline problem, or a systems problem. It's a structural one. The business hasn't been built out of the founder yet. That's the work we do.
Our motto is simple. Build a business that runs without you. Not because you're not valuable — because your value is in leading it, not being it.
our
team
Ops By Design isn't a firm that arrives with templates. We're a small team of operators who work closely with each founder to understand what your business actually needs — how your team operates, how your clients experience you, where the real ceiling is. Every sprint is built specifically for your business, in your language, using tools that fit how you actually work. If your current setup is patched together or you've outgrown what you had, we build with you into what comes next. What we build fits, because we took the time to see clearly first.
Meet the Founder
Sumayya has spent her career inside the businesses others only advise from the outside.
Ten years in HR, recruiting, and RPO — building teams, hiring executives, and learning what actually makes people stay, leave, and lead. Then years as the operations backbone for founders of some of the most visible businesses in their industries — the person in the room when decisions got made, deals got closed, and the real cost of founder dependence became impossible to miss.
She's built onboarding systems for teams of two and teams of two hundred. Designed hiring processes for companies scaling into new markets. Restructured client delivery for founders who had outgrown their own capacity. Built the operational infrastructure for founders launching new offers, new retreats, new certification programs — and made it hold long after she'd moved on.
That range is what makes the diagnostic sharp. Sumayya has seen enough founder-led businesses at enough stages to know the difference between a discipline problem, a hiring problem, and a structural problem. Most consultants treat all three the same. That's why the fixes rarely hold.
She built Ops By Design so that founders who need structural work get someone who's actually built it before — not someone advising from the sideline. The practice runs on the same structure it installs for clients: small team, clear ownership, systems that hold without any one person being the reason they work.
What she teaches is what she's built.
01. LATTES + BEAUTIFUL SPACES = love language
Coffee shops, hotel lobbies, sunlit corners. My office moves with me — and the best thinking happens somewhere I've never been before.
02. TAKE THE TRIP
A few times a year, I disappear — international retreats, quiet planning trips, cities I've never been. The best strategy comes from stepping fully away from the work.
03. SUNDAY IS SACRED
The reset ritual. The planner spread. The intention set. If I don't do Sunday well, I don't do the week well.

If you've made it this far, we probably see something the same way. The next step is a CEO Chat — thirty minutes to talk through where your business is now and whether Ops By Design fits what it needs next.
